Carry on Camping Clee Hill Style and Mr. Chopping's Chisel!

Charles Joyce, who was at the school 1962 - 67 has really missed his vocation! He's created the first step towards a school museum with his very creative displays. Two displays here - Carry on Camping Clee Hill Style and Technical Drawing with Mr Chopin's Chisel.

Remember cycling up, open fire near the quarry, opening baked bean cans with a pen knife - beans tasting of smoke!

One of my favourite haunts was Saturday's trip to Clee Hill. Walking up to Cherry Orchard to catch the Midland Red bus up to Clee Hill (X92 Kidderminster - Ludlow).
I used to get off by the old railway engine shed and climb up the slope past the quarry and head towards Titterstone Clee past the forked tree (Fancy remembering that). At Titterstone Clee i headed to the old quarry site which was full of water and was a blue green colour because of the minerals in the rocks. It was a fantastic walk with only sheep for company. The views were fantastic and it was back down to the village to catch the bus back to Cleobury in time for tea.

Texas  Dave McGarry That hill was freedom.. such great memories of Clee Hill. And Trev, I can still taste the diesel smoke on the sausages.

A Shropshire Lad

Into my heart an air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?

That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

  1. It's funny and a bit sad, that we share similar memories that have stayed with us all these years. At the time, I thought Clee Hill was my private freedom, my obsession alone, and that others would move on. I've returned many times since, but never recaptured the freedom of those days.
